One web site mentioned that Brewer & Shipley wrote "Oh Mommy (I Ain't No
Commie) in retaliation for the Nixon Administration's strong-arming
radio stations to drop "One Toke Over The Line". This makes a
fun story, but "One Toke Over The Line" and "Oh Mommy" were written and
released on their album Tarkio in 1970, before "One Toke" was
pulled from the airwaves in early 1971. In fact,
"Oh Mommy" was
the B-side for the "One Toke Over The Line" single.
Is it
possible that this myth is backwards and the "Oh Mommy" reference to Mr.
Nixon caused "One Toke Over The Line" to be singled out by the
Nixon/Agnew Administration? |
